Consider the power of an algorithm - that is about as math and techy as I can get. See the following articles:
Assessing Social Media's Growing Clout In The News Landscape (from NPR)
An Algoritm is the Curator at the September 11 Museum (from NPR)
As a society we now get most of our news from social media for good or ill. Depending on one's social media presence and use, you may be expanding, constricting, or creating a bias in your news based on your likes, websites visited, etc. Can we afford to become more narrow minded? It is true that we all have our own likes and interests, but it is important to not become uninformed or misinformed.
Fun things to consider this summer (besides just relaxing):
Read a book
Follow an "expert" in social media
Curate a news feed
Create an Escape Game Plans for - substitute lessons, final exam time to occupy students (like http://www.breakoutedu.com/)
Try something new that you can implement into your classroom
Visit a historical site
