Apps and Web Tools
Instructional practices are becoming more convenient to create and experience with recent technology movements in education. Many schools are moving toward a one-to-one device model while others are practicing BYOT or Bring Your Own Technology. App and Web Tool creators are consulting school officials to inquire about relevant applications for instructional purposes before designing useful digital programs. It's all out there waiting for us to take advantage of it! Many of you are already integrating technology on very high levels. I'm the technology facilitator here, and I find myself thinking how glad I am when a teacher shows me something they are using that I had no knowledge of before. Others are more reluctant, and that is understandable. I used to be the guy who wasn't quite too sure of himself within the realm of technology integration. My suggestion for those who aren't quite comfortable with using digital tools in the classroom would be to start with something small and build from that. I'm more than happy to make suggestions to help you get over the hump. Below you will find links to our Web and App Tools of the Week suggestions that Anne and I have been collaborating on since last year. Feel free to look for something which sounds interesting and put it into action. Ask me for help if you need it. Doing so will eventually make your job easier, your instructional practices more efficient, and will help you to connect with your students who already possess the schema that's involved with using smartphones, tablets, and the web in general.
