Virtual Learning @ Butler High School
Butler High School offers classes through North Carolina Virtual Public School, and Edgenuity.
Students may register and sign-up for classes through their school counselor based on need. These classes may be scheduled in the 601 Lab during the regular school day, or after school and student's own time.
Students please realize that Virtual Learning is labor intensive. Students need to be organized, motivated, articulate in written communication, and self-directed learners to be successful.
REGISTRATION FOR SUMMER COURSES WILL BEGIN AT THE END OF MARCH 2018.
At this time, we are not offering core courses (Math, English, Science, or Social Studies) during the summer session. These courses require the NC Final Exams at the conclusion of the course. Butler does not have the personal to test every summer student.
AP Courses are only offered during the school year. AP Tests are only given in the month of May as specified by College Board.
ONLINE SUMMER SCHOOL WILL BEGIN JUNE 18 for both NCVPS and Edgenuity. If students have problems over the summer, they should contact either:
o NCVPS Help: http://help.ncvps.org, or
o [email protected], or
o Summer Help Form: https://goo.gl/forms/4C0yzUAiG9wmMj2B3

Edgenuity is an online computer program for new or initial credit courses. Edgenuity has flexible start and end times. These courses also offer a teacher that will communicate with the school and the student. School Counselors determine if a student is eligible for Edgenuity Courses and enroll students. Although courses are designed to be 8 to 18 weeks of class, at Butler we have found that Edgenuity Courses are labor intensive and require outside school time. Students need to be motivated to complete the course work and understand that this type of course work is a large time commitment.

In North Carolina Virtual Public Schools each course is taught by a NC Certified Teacher. The expectation is that students log into the course every day and complete assignments. Students are expected to communicate directly and actively with their teachers. Failure to do so will cause required contact to school personal. NCVPS is used for initial coursework only. At Butler, most students choose the option of NCVPS courses when the content they are interested in learning is not offered at the school level. Examples of this include Advanced Placement Courses, Honors Courses, World Languages (Spanish, French, Chinese, German, Japanese, Latin, etc.), CTE, Music and Visual Arts, SAT Prep, and any other courses not offered in Edgenuity.
